The Long Yang e.V. has been following and supporting the political and social developments in Nepal for two decades. In cooperation with our local partner organization, the Akasha Academy NGO, we specifically support not for profit social and ecological projects. Responding to the need of the Nepalese population after the earthquakes in 2015, we strengthened our relations and have also repeatedly been supporting infrastructure projects where local means were not sufficient.
In November and December 2017, the first democratic parliamentary elections were held in Nepal. Two years earlier, the administrations of the newly founded communities had already been democratically elected. These strong signs indicate a new path towards creating opportunities and hope for the Nepalese people.
The political and social challenges are enormous, but at the same time these changes are creating new opportunities for the country. The Nepalese capital Kathmandu is growing rapidly, with population and traffic volume increasing every year. Many problems are a result of this: poor air quality, inadequate waste and sewage management, traffic collapse, land sealing. Many trees in Kathmandu had to give way to large construction projects and roads. The impressive nature of even the most remote regions is now affected by plastic waste.
A sustainable development is most important. Thus, we are in close contact with the communities of the Suntakhan region. We have for example a special connection to the “Sree Suntakhan Secondary School”. The children of this public school often come from a simple background. Over several years, Long Yang e.V. has now been able to successfully contribute to the development of the school. Additional subjects and classes can now be offered and the number of pupils has more than doubled. They are now among the best graduates in the region.
In special cases, Long Yang e.V. also awards scholarships to young, needy Nepali to get an education.
